Dance!
I have ever been a doer, a busy Martha. Then an unexpected experience of grief and loss took me by surprise and I suddenly I found myself without the strength I needed to carry on. This song was me learning to stop my silly "getting it done" and just worship my Rescuer. The night I wrote this, I felt it necessary to dance while singing it, even though it felt silly and awkward. The whole family came outside to "hear" my song and watched as I cried, danced and sang. To my surprise, one after another, the kids and Gabe did their own unique dance, and then tagged the next family member. It was a moment of healing and relief for me, and this song remains one of my favorites. In my mind, the song is sung to a bongo djimbe type drum. If anyone out there wants to try it - I'd love to hear the results.

I was bound up in all my sorrow, I was carrying my tomorrow

When he said to me, "I can set you free. As for you, you should sing.”

Then he took my burdens, so I’m dancing

If no one should sing, even the rocks would scream,

"Hallelujah! I’m not moving - except to dance."
Well my hero’s name, his name is, “Rescue." And he said to me, "I think it’s best you
Laid your burdens down; I’ll carry that for now. As for you, you should dance.”
Then he took my burdens, so I’m dancing
And he took my sorrows, so I’m laughing
When I’m weak he’s strong; here’s where I belong
Hallelujah! I’m not moving - except to dance.
I had worked so long I was weary. And I got nowhere, it was clearly
Just a waste of time, then I heard the Vine say to me, "you should pray.”
Then he took my burdens, so I’m dancing
And he took my sorrows, so I’m laughing
Now my work is prayer and he’ll get me there
Hallelujah! I’m not moving - except to dance!
